**Dragon Magic Basics**
From a very young age I have loved Dragons. As I went through life I got a few tattoos of dragons and really felt a connection to them and it has grown stronger. I then discovered that there was a whole branch of Dragon Magic. So I started to journey into the realm of the Dragons. Here are some of the basic things I have learned.
As one may know, dragons can be found in mythology from almost every culture. They have been depicted anywhere from an evil, livestock eating creature to a regal, powerful deity. One thing that is seen across the board is that they are strong and magical creatures. Dragons have since left our plain of existence and have moved on to their own spiritual realm. On occasion they can still be glimpsed visiting us here. Nessie could potentially be a dragon visiting our realm. In future articles, as I learn more, I will go more into the different types of dragons and their history. For the time being, I will talk about the different elements of the dragons and what they rule over.
Dragons follow the elements Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. At the centre of the circle of elements you will find the dragons of Spirit. Specific dragons will rule in each of those elements. As with anything, each element has its positive and negative associations.

Air dragons are ruled by Sairys, who is the overseer of the dragons of winds and breezes. The colour yellow, direction of East, and feelings of warm and moist are associated with this dragon. Dragons of the Air element belong to a family of beings that include wind, storm, and weather. They will often work with dragons of fire, volcanoes, seas and other waters, mountains, forests, and chaos.

Fire dragons are ruled by Fafnir, who is the overseer of the dragons of fire and sunbeams. The colour red, direction of South, and feelings of warm and dry are associated with this dragon. Dragons of the Fire element belong to a family of beings that include fire and volcanoes. They will often work with dragons of desert and arid regions, chaos, and destruction.

Water dragons are ruled by Naelyan, who is the overseer of the dragons of seas, springs, lakes, ponds, and rivers. The colour of blue, direction of West, and feelings of cold and moist are associated with this dragon. Dragons of the Water element belong to a family of beings that include seas and the other bodies of water. They will often work with dragons of wind, storm, weather, mountains, forest, and destruction.

Earth dragons are ruled by Grael, who is the overseer of the dragons of mountains, land, minerals, gems, and moonbeams. The colour of green, direction of West, and the feelings of cold and dry are associated with this dragon. Dragons of the Earth element belong to a family of beings that include mountains, forests, and deserts and arid regions. They will often work with dragons of fire, volcanoes, chaos, and destruction.
At the centre of the circle of elements one will find the white (light) and black (dark) dragons. These dragons balance out the other elements. The dragons of darkness or dark of the spirit rule the negative power currents. They are associated with the colour black, female energy, and the feelings of moist and cold. The dragons of light or light of the spirit rule the positive power currents. They are associated with the colour white, male energy, and the feelings of warm and dry. Both types of these dragons are often seen with their tails in their mouths. Once they release the tail they stand ready to use their powers for either creation (light) or destroying (dark). These dragons are not “good” or “evil”, as there are both negative and positive aspects to both light and dark.
When you start working with dragons, one will start out with a guardian dragon. Guardian dragons are usually quite small, as they are usually young dragons. They will join humans as apprentices to help them learn about humans and strengthen their own powers. This is their time of “schooling”. Guardian dragons will have one or more adult dragons supervising them as they learn. You often will not see these supervisors, as they are there to protect the young dragons as well as you. One can meet their dragon guardian through meditation.
I personally have not yet met my dragon guardian, but I am well on my way to getting there. I feel I will learn so much more once I start working with these amazing creatures. This is just a small taste of the dragons that are out there. If you love dragons as much as I do, I encourage you to look into adding dragons to your practice and hopefully find the joy that I do in knowing that they exist and are there to learn beside us. Until next time, Blessed be!
